Getting Started

How do I create my first entry?
Tap the text field at the bottom of the Today screen. Type your thought, note, link, tag, or mention, then tap Save. LogPad saves the entry with the current date and time.
How do I use markdown formatting?
LogPad supports standard markdown syntax:
  • **bold** for bold text
  • _italic_ for italic text
  • # Header for headers
  • - Item for lists
  • > Quote for block quotes
Your formatted text will render beautifully when you view entry details.
What are tags and mentions?
Tags start with # (like #gratitude, #work) and mentions start with @ (like @sarah). LogPad automatically detects and parses these, making them easy to search and filter.
How does iCloud sync work?
iCloud sync is included for every user and runs through Apple's CloudKit infrastructure when iCloud is available for LogPad on your device. Open Settings in LogPad to see the latest sync status. LogPad does not run its own sync server.

Search Features

What's the difference between search modes?
Exact Words INCLUDED
Fast keyword search that finds entries containing your exact search terms. Always available, works offline.

Best Match INCLUDED
Combines exact matches with on-device language matching when the semantic index is ready. It is the recommended mode for most searches.
Why isn't Best Match finding semantic results?
Semantic ranking depends on:
  • A device running iOS 18 or later
  • The local semantic index is ready
  • At least a few entries for indexing
  • Supported on-device language assets from Apple
If you just created or imported many entries, give LogPad time to build the local semantic index. The search screen shows semantic index status and includes a rebuild option.

Premium Features

What's included in LogPad Premium?
Premium is a lifetime upgrade. It adds:
  • Advanced Save Workflows: Quick Save days, date ranges, folders, and results
  • Bulk Export: Export selected result lists and folder lists
  • PDF Export: Create polished PDFs for archiving or sharing
  • Unlimited Smart Folders: Keep more than 3 saved filters
Core features such as entry capture, iCloud sync, widgets, exact search, Best Match, and Markdown/plain-text export are included.
How do I upgrade to Premium?
Premium is available as a one-time lifetime purchase:
  1. Tap any Premium feature, such as PDF export or a fourth Smart Folder
  2. Review the lifetime purchase offer
  3. Confirm with Face ID/Touch ID
  4. Use Premium features immediately
Pricing is shown by the App Store before you confirm the purchase.
Do I need to cancel anything?
No. Current Premium access is a lifetime in-app purchase, not a subscription.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
LogPad automatically restores purchases when you open the app on a new device (using the same Apple ID). If this doesn't happen, tap any Premium feature and select Restore Purchases on the upgrade screen.

iCloud Sync & Data

Is iCloud sync included?
Yes. iCloud sync is included and does not require Premium. It uses your Apple iCloud account and available iCloud storage.
Can I turn iCloud sync off?
LogPad currently keeps CloudKit sync active when iCloud is available. If you want to stop iCloud syncing, use iOS iCloud settings for LogPad or sign out of iCloud on the device. Your local LogPad data remains on the device unless you delete it.
How do I export my data?
Export your journal anytime:
  1. Open an entry, Today list, search result, tag list, or Smart Folder
  2. Tap the export/share button
  3. Choose a format: Markdown, Plain Text, or PDF
  4. Share the file or save it to Files
Markdown and plain-text export are included. PDF export and some bulk export workflows require Premium.

Troubleshooting

My entries aren't syncing to my other devices
Step 1: Open LogPad Settings on each device and check the latest sync status
Step 2: Check you're signed in to the same Apple ID on all devices (Settings → Your Name)
Step 3: Ensure iCloud Drive is enabled in iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → iCloud Drive
Step 4: Make sure you have internet connectivity on both devices
Step 5: Give it 5-10 minutes—sync may take time for large journals
If sync still does not work after 30 minutes, please contact support.
The app is crashing or freezing
Try these steps:
  1. Force quit LogPad (swipe up in app switcher)
  2. Restart LogPad
  3. If problem persists, restart your iPhone
  4. Update to the latest iOS version (Settings → General → Software Update)
  5. Update LogPad to the latest version (App Store → Updates)
If crashes continue, please contact support with details about what you were doing when it crashed.
I can't find an entry I wrote
Try these search strategies:
  • Use Exact Words with keywords you remember
  • Search by date (entries show creation date)
  • Search by tags: #work or mentions: @name
  • Try Best Match with conceptual terms
  • Scroll through the Today view—entries are chronological
Widgets aren't showing my entries
Widget troubleshooting:
  1. Create at least one entry first
  2. Remove and re-add the widget to your home/lock screen
  3. Open LogPad to trigger a widget refresh
  4. Make sure entries exist on the device; widget refresh timing is controlled by iOS
Semantic search index is stuck building
If semantic indexing takes a long time:
  • For 100+ entries, indexing can take 5-10 minutes
  • Keep LogPad open while indexing (don't force quit)
  • Ensure your device isn't in Low Power Mode
  • Try rebuilding the index from the search screen's semantic status tools
If indexing fails repeatedly, please contact support.

Privacy & Security

Is my journal private?
Absolutely! LogPad is privacy-first:
  • All entries stored locally on your device (encrypted by iOS)
  • iCloud sync uses your Apple iCloud account and Apple's CloudKit infrastructure
  • Semantic search runs on-device where supported
  • We do not run a LogPad server that stores your journal content
  • No ads or advertising trackers
  • Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics may be used for crash diagnostics and app improvement
Read our Privacy Policy for details.
Can you read my journal entries?
No. Entries are stored on your device and, when iCloud is available, in your personal iCloud account through Apple's infrastructure. We do not operate a server that collects journal entries.
